Do you ever feel like you’re relearning yourself?
I used to believe that at some magical point in life, I’d have everything figured out—my identity, my career, my goals, everything. I thought there would come a day when I would feel perfectly confident and comfortable in who I was, with all of life’s puzzles solved.
Umm…excuse me? HA.
Why did anyone ever sell us on that idea?
Looking back, I’m grateful that life didn’t unfold as some predictable, set-in-stone experience. Sure, I’ve had my moments of frustration, feeling like growth and learning were tiresome—those "why me?" moments when challenges felt overwhelming. In fact, there have been entire chapters of my life dedicated to figuring out whether burnout is a prerequisite for breakthrough. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t have to be.
But ultimately, I’m so thankful that life keeps evolving, that I keep evolving. It means this adventure never gets stale.
The Inevitability of Change
Here’s the truth: change is constant. No matter how much we may resist it or hope to control it, we can’t stop the world—or ourselves—from changing. Seasons change, relationships change, and we, too, are in a constant state of evolution. Even as I write this, I can feel autumn approaching, the air cooling slightly with each day. Just like the seasons, I’m shifting, and so are you.
But the thing is while you cannot stop change, you can choose how you respond to it.
Yes, embracing change can feel overwhelming, uncomfortable, and downright exhausting. Some days, it feels like life is dragging us through endless lessons and challenges, and the days stretch on in ways that make progress seem impossible. But change is where the magic happens—it’s how we grow, adapt, and learn to move forward.
Why We Need Change to Thrive
In many ways, life would lose a lot of its magic if we stopped evolving. Change is what keeps things fresh, what propels us into new experiences and opportunities. It’s the difference between living life in black and white versus full color. Can you imagine if you stayed the same forever? If your thoughts, dreams, and ambitions never shifted? We’d miss out on so much growth, joy, and yes, even adventure.
As humans, we are wired to learn and grow, and it’s through change that we discover new strengths, skills, and possibilities within ourselves. Every challenge presents a choice: resist it and stay stagnant, or embrace it and move forward.
How to Embrace Change
1. Shift Your Mindset: Instead of viewing change as something to fear, start looking at it as an opportunity. Each change, no matter how small, brings with it the potential for growth and new perspectives. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?”
2. Stay Present: When life feels like it's moving too fast, slow down. Stay present in the moment and focus on what you can control right now. You don’t have to figure everything out at once—just take one step at a time.
3. Revisit Your Goals: As you change, your goals will naturally shift too. Reevaluate what’s important to you now and give yourself permission to let go of old goals that no longer serve you.
4. Find Comfort in the Uncertainty: Uncertainty is uncomfortable, but it’s also where creativity and innovation are born. Embrace the unknown and see it as a space of possibility rather than fear.
5. Be Patient with Yourself: Change doesn’t happen overnight, and neither does growth. Be kind to yourself as you navigate new experiences, and remember that it’s okay to stumble along the way.
A Gentle Reminder as You Navigate Life’s Changes
As you step into the next phase of your life, whether it’s a new job, relationship, or personal growth journey, remind yourself that change is a natural part of the process. You are allowed to grow, adapt, and even struggle along the way. Like the seasons, you are always in transition, and that’s not only okay—it’s beautiful.
Today, grab an extra scoop of patience for yourself. And maybe another one called “I deserve peace AND adventure in life.” You’re allowed to feel both.
Key Takeaways:
- Change is inevitable, but growth is optional: While you can’t control external circumstances, you can control how you choose to respond to life’s changes.
- Relearning yourself is a lifelong process: Embrace the fact that you are a work in progress, and that’s a good thing.
- Adaptation leads to strength: The challenges that come with change ultimately make you stronger and more resilient.
